Exit (strap in, this is a long one)

03/02/2026

To start off: i did technically read this book last year, but i just really wanted to write about it so im counting it within my this year bookshelf sorry

I think exit is genuinely one of the funniest books i have read in a while (not surprising, given my tendency to read exclusively books about people killing themselves or at least wanting to a little bit). It reminded me a lot of the TMC series in terms of writing and, sure, the fact that the main character is an elderly british man currently trying to solve a murder before it comes back and bites him in the ass. Several moments throughout the book i was giggling out loud at the phrasing, the dialogue or simply the absurdity of everythign that went on. I will not say it was a perfect book, or even that it was as good as the TMCs, but, it was very very good.

I already mentioned the writing style. It is funny, dry, incredibly British. Suits my humor perfectly with a combination of slight sarcasm or snark and the fact that the book realises what it is and what it is doing (a comedy book; making people laugh) and does not try to be more than it is at the detriment of the story (cough cough we solve murders)(what who said that). It really reflects humans as exactly that, humans. There is no overly annoying mary sue-ification of the main character, but he is funny through just the fact that you recognise the internal dialogue as what may sometimes go through your own head. If i dont get lazy/forget ill get my book as soon as bea finishes and ill find some examples of this.

The same goes for the dialogue, really, though i would say that is maybe slightly exaggerated to make it funnier or more dramatic. I dont really remember if im honest, but the gist of it is that it was funny and most often realistic and never boring.

The characters were also (mostly) just fun. I think thats maybe the main thing about this book, if im honest, its just Fun. Though they are all fairly flat (not that i expected much else in the current genre) and slightly caricaturised, they served their purpose of making me laugh and making an entertaining story. I will say that i was disappointed by the stereotypation of some of them (more on this later), and I think the story would probably have functioned just as well without them, but in the grand scheme of things it did not do much to tank the whole review in my books (heehee).

Ok now to get into the juicy parts: what did i NOT like. I will have to get a bit more specific here, so if you at all care about spoilers maybe stop reading for a paragraph or two, ill lyk when its good to tune back in again.

Mostly what i disliked, is that i feel like the author was trying to go for some sort of shock factor through plot twists, which sometimes worked and sometimes did not. wait ok no more on this later hold on i need to finish my point first. I did not much care for the way they wrote the cleaner. At the start i really did, i thought the point being made was how criminally undervalued cleaners and in-home nurses are. I thought the commentary was that this poor girl, i meant this figuratively but actually also literally, is doing these cleaning jobs to provide for a big messy family that is all trying to get by. She is so exhausted by both the home life and her work and also being pregnant that it impacts her ability to properly do her job. This was the direction i thought we were taking, but i feel like it was massively undercut by reducing her to 'dramatic member of staff slept with and fell in love with rich son'. While, yes, okay, at the end there was some sort of atttempt to rectify this by also making this an act of desparation, i feel like this was a cheap choice that we could have done without. I think we could have even had the plot stay mostly the same and just left out the fact that they did it. idk it felt mostly unnecessary and cheap to me.
I could have looked past this, if they did not then do the complete opposite with the police officer. He is a fat loser who wastes all his money gambling, and we are just supposed to feel bad for him. There is barely any redemption or attempts to 'justify' his behaviour as there originally was for the nurse, but still we are supposed to have some sort of sympathy for him. very annoying. anyways, what was i going to say.

Ah yeah, i wanted to talk about their other plot twists and foreshadowing. I feel like there was so mmuch of all of it that i have many things to say, both good and bad, but ill pick some highlights quickfire style. The brick i thought had potential but eventually disappointed me, as it feels like the payoff was way small for the emphasis placed on both the brick and the rubber band at the start. I like that the main guy ended up being the guy from gambling, and i also like that quite quickly you get this sort of eerie feel that youve seen mr exiteer already and it grows throughout the book. I like that the old guy who meant to die (dont rememer his name) knew who mr exiteer was immediately but like acted it out a little bit to be dramatic about it later, but imo the reveal was a bit on the dramatic side. Though predictable, i like that he died on his boat. I rEALLY liked that he had been feeding the wrong cat the entire time i thought that was really funny. I have to say i found the whole arrest and police investigation equal parts funny and equal parts kind of cliché. At first i immediately figured that they had taken him in for a separate case entirely, but they did manage to pull me back in with the negotiation and the severity of the tulip case. Amanda being the gf was also immediately obvious and i dont think for me it added much to the story, nor did it really ruin things or whatever so i guess im fine with that.

random highlight reel: as mentioned before i loved the cat bit and i greatly enjoyed the police investigation as soon as they made it funny and ridiculous rather than like expected and cliché. Im not usually a fan of like physical comedy but i quite liked the way they made him constantly escape and climb back through the fence/tree, but mostly because of the internal monologue they gave him. I love mabel (? the dog? am i getting this right?). i love ms chatty neighbour (did they have to make her in love though?). didnt really at all get the significance of the elaborate gambling stuff, i feel like a lot of that was kind of just a story in itself that maybe tried to do or be something bigger than it was on paper but that i feel is maybe not necessary when youre writing a funny book?

lowlight reel: i retract my previous statement that it doesnt try to be more than it is because i just remembered they literally blow up the entire house. that was, um, dumb. Also another unnecessary fakeout. did not get the giggle out of me that i think it was meant to. Like i was happy that he was out of bed but like idk i feel like the blowing up was a bit dramatic.

no more spoilers you can come back here

Okay either way im starting to ramble i think its maybe time i cut it. My point still stands that I really enjoyed the book, and the fact that i managed to actually forget the stupid writing in favour of how funny it was is i think a good indicator of this. I read it in less than a day and the only reason i stopped reading it at all was beacause my plane landed and they really wanted me to leave the premises. So there you go. I would recommend this book to absolutely everyone, no matter what genre youre usually into. Though maybe with a warning to just let it all happen, focus on the fact that its funny and its lighthearted and the premise of the whole thing is, inherently, hilarious. Dont get too hung up on clichés, dont try to mystery-solve too hard, mostly just enjoy the ride (i say this in the sense of do mystery solve because its fun, but dont get all crazy with it because thats not what this book is made for). Anyways. I think i maybe gave this four stars if not five, it is a good book and a fun book. Go read it.

Totally

first update in forever and first thingy in the new year hellooooooo i am back god knows what ill do. anyways hi im back w new music mostly bc i wanted to do something about the rivnet but my tablet is out of battery and everything else would require too much thinking so here we are hello
so today is totally inhaler hellooooo its about time i did this one its like the main reason i even made absolute faves in the first place p much. anyway i dont have anything really big and important to say about this just that i feel like shit and i needed to cheer myself up so i went to absolute faves and this played and immediately it felt like maybe things will be fine or in the words of inhaler themselves it wont always be like this its also the reason it made it on the me and maikel playlist even though it has nothing to do with emma at all its just sm that makes me feel good sm that makes me feel like mem again idk if that makes sense

sorrry i guess this more of a diary entry than it is a real song entry so um lest see one of the main reasons its on the absolute faves is because the music itself is like really good the start with just the like beat and then the music slowly bit by bit starts building is rreally good to me like it feels like you know when youre making a thing out of legos and youre putting everything together or when you draw digitally and you finally make add all the layers together and you get the full picture you were going for thats what it feels like to me like it feels accomplished even though all i did was sit here and wait for the music to do its thing and then the singing starts and then it goes back to being small again with only some of the layers which is just easy and comfortable and chill and the way they immediately start building the song on the word totaly idk its just good its nice and then the chorus which has one singular sentence but somehow it just works and all the music is back which like lifts it up again and gives you the little boost like yeah why DOES it hurt him so much even though i havent even listened to the lyrics fr yet so i dont even konw whats hurting him i still somehow feel invested and idk the melody the way they sing the way the music and the words are kind of in harmony its all so good i really got rusty didnt i all i can say about thigns are 'its good' 'it sounds nice' anyways i guess kind fo the same as with devils advocate where theres just the line in the music that keeps continuing throughout the entire song thats really sometihgn i found out i enjoy a LOT apparently
ok ive looped it for the 4th time now i dont think ill get to like say anything intelligent about this um just know i enjoy this song a lot and theres a reason its on the absolute faves and it makes me feel good and nice even though the main words are literally why does it hurt me so bad so um yeah go listen

nokia 105

26/08/25

using this song as an example for the whole genre of norwegian indie rock(?) because 1. i need a song to put even though i want to talk about kind of the entire genre as a whole and 2. i just really like the song so yeah here you go nokia 105

so to start off with an anecdote you probably have heard already; i was on a quest to find some good norwegian indie rock songs because im trying to add some new blood to my playlists, so i looked up the artist of 'jeg blir så dum' (also highly recommend listening to), brenn. because i figured id put on some brenn. radio. So i clicked on their account and then i saw that the most played song was four runner (number four cant type rn) and i was like whaaaaat i didnt know they sang in english. AS it turns out i wasnt on the brenn. account but i was on the brenn! account. like the same name different punctuation mark, isnt that crazy i never knew abt that ok now back to my original point:

so ive been getting more into norwegian indie rock indie pop kinda that genre and it has really been a banger ive been finding old artist id forgotten about and like discovering new songs as well as rediscovering old favourites and its been so fun my main artists rn are brenn. (obvo), tøfl, yellowroots, pikekyss (i hate her name) and cezinando but those are just the ones ive seen enough to remember their names of, i mostly just play the radio

as for the nokia song its soooooo me its like talking abt not wasting your time on your smartphone anymore but instead like just enjoy life and like talk to people on the bus point out beautiful things to your friends and talk about how lovey they are i just think its such a cute song and its sooooo me and emma like i cant even count how many times weve been like ok buying a flip phone rn so yeah i just especially like that song rn bc its so relatable and i love it even though theyre from like vestlandet or wherever it is theyre from

im full

09/07/25

originally was gonna do titoli di coda but figured we maybe need a break from the ptn for a bit so that will have to come later keep an eye out for that

ok so ive been back on my nothing happens grind and uggghhh this song has gone so underrated by me for so long its just so good first of all the way it fits between remember when and do not wait (do not wait my beloved my dear) and actuwally well i could go on and on and on about how well nothing happens is made in its entirely like how all the songs work with each other not only th eway they follow each other but also the way wallows managed to make all the songs such different songs with such different like sounds and vibes while still keeping the same overall feeling or sm idk like they all still fit together even tho f.eks. scrawny im full and do not wait are all completely different songs but i digress

back to im full by itself i love how it immediately jumps into the song like there is no intro or starting music you just jump right into it and youre THERE like even tho it starts super abrupt it doesnt really throw you off guard or anything youre just immediately on board and then the guitars are awesome as it is on every song on nothing happens and the way the music goes when he goes 'why im full' like the way it rises with the tone of the words and stuff and then i like how it goes fromm super full guitar to so 'empty' on the 'so whos it gonna be' part and it slowly builds and explodes at the 'tired of this disadvantage' and then 'and im screaming in my head' where everything comes together and i feel it in my bones its so good and then it kind of falls apart before easing you into do not wait which works perfectly and i feel like the chaos right before the like mellow and slow and deep sounds of do not wait is such a perfect combination and the like super high note im full ends on is maybe the actual best thing they couldve put before do not wait because the contrast i feel like amplifies both sides of the switch and like idk its just so well made and oh my g od was it good to hear live i miss being there oh my

ok bottom line i love im full and im sorry for not appreciating it enough earlier i coudl say a million more thingss about it but i feel like im trying to keep these things slightly readable so maybe i should adjust how i do these at some point but for now ill just like stop ok bye

devil's advocate

02/07/25

been making my absolute faves playlist (which you can look at in the music player btw if you even care) and its just been me scrolling though all my favourite playlists finding songs that ill enjoy for sure no matter what kind of mood im in and i saw devils advocate and that was a FOR SURE absolute fave like hoooooolllyyyyyyy ffffffffuck that songs so good now to be clear the playlist is meant for me to add and remove songs as i find/overplay them but i honestly dont see devil's advocate leaving the playlist anytime soon because like its just SUCH a good song like it starts with the bassline and it just keeps that bassline throughout the entire song no keychange no speed change just that one bassline adn the song moves around it while it stays the same and thast just WONDERFUL to me and then the vibes of it are so mellow and good and perfectly adaptable to any mood i might find myself in and then the way its like actually relatively small and then it gets big and and then the little like sounds in the back that somehow dont make it feel as overwhelming and big as you'd think they would but theyre like fitting just finesomehow and idk its just such a good song it fits my brain so perfectly and its not that long of a song but that doesnt even matter either because those actually i just looked it up its 3 minutes long tahts quite aveage for a song LOL time flies when youre having fun i guess aahahhahahha

now i dont have any idea what they sing because i dont listen to words ever and especialllly not when the music is good enough to do all the heavy lifting on its own so like if the words are weird just dont like tell me mmaybe thanks

everybody go watch the residence

14/06/25

i just watched the residence annd ohhhhhhh my GOD did i love it my sister recommended it to me and it took a while to get around to it but one day i was hemming some pants and wanted something to play in the background (bad idea: got too invested to sew) and guys let me tell you its SO good oh my god

ok so first of all the cast is amazing i love all the actors and cornelia and edwin are chefs kiss second of all it is FUNNY like its funny in the sense that i laughed out loud many times without it being annoying funny yknow its like idk how to explain it its just funny and the fact that they managed to make it funny while preserving the murder mystery of it without watering it down is awesome and i love them for it

then there is the actual murder mystery part which i feel is compelling and well thought out but also well managed, it throws you for a billion different loops without it feeling annoyingly complicated as i often have when there are plotholes for plotholes' sake but no they did it perfectly i feel like because every plothole fit into the insanely wacky situation they built up and thats why it WORKED its just wacky enough to imagine a bunch of shit but not so wacky that it starrts getting annoying do you get my vibe

next thing i adore is the episode setup itself, i love that each episode gets to know a different staff and i love how little moments arre interspersed that are all relevant but also just make you feel like youre THERE and even htough i do think its annoying when tv is dumbed down for the viewer i do feel like it was done very tastefully and i didnt hate it that much

this is where we maaaaay get into spoiler territory so read on your own volition, ill let you know where i continue w the non spoilery stuff so skip this if you want:
i really relaly like how you can tell that everyone just has respect for each other i like how cornelia has respect for the chief i like how AB has respect for literally the entire house even the biggest pains in the asses like everyone who is worth something respects the SHIT out of each other and oh my god bruce elsyie how adorable is that if it isnt like them i dont want it

SPOILERS END HERE then besides that i just really loved watching it i loved lookking at it it looks good the lighting is good the colours are satisfying thos white house SHOTS oh my god are they gorgeous and also im obsessed with the ideas of this universe hell yeah we have a gay president of the US who everyone hates including his MIL his boybestie lives down the hall as does his brother who physically attacked him (again, the POTUS himself) in the white house thinking that was something he could just do the australian prrime minister fucked te white house chef against a tree sure whatever also the how many dudes do you need cornrelia i love you

sorry this is getting really long but i really could just go on and on and on abt this show i love it so much its so good its really really just so so good please if you bother to read any of this at all go watch it its on netflix its 8 long episodes and i promise youll be hooked from the first second oh did i mention the intro with all the artwork UGH i love it so much okay i really do need to go to bed now but yeah go watch the residence i love it oh my god

27/05/25

okay so before i figure out the logistics of it all and how im gonna organise all this and whatever i just HAD to make this lil entry because i added the spotify thing and i just really wanna talk about it so dont judge my setup okay im just excited or whatever

ok so as we all know i am going to the penguin concert soon and im suuuuper excited so ive just been looping the album over and over recently so its very much been on my mind so when i was trying to think of a song to put here it was p obvi that it was gonna be a ptn hello world one and then i remembered that i read on their instagram that they called their album 'hello world' for many deep reasons but part of that is the fact that thats usually what programming students first learn to make the program say and i think thats adorable AND super fitting so the first thign my spotify code is saying to you guys is hello world and please listen to it and also the rest of the album its so good

i say this as if theres more than 3 people who even know abt this place one of which literally introduced me to ptn but its fine its whatever
